Prime the Pump

Customers will follow the example of a few early adopters, and recommendation communities are no different. Before your site can gain popularity, it must be perceived as having useful recommendations. Use a UNIFIED BROWSING HIERARCHY (K1) to integrate content, commerce, and customer reviews. Put customer reviews on the CLEAN PRODUCT DETAILS (F2) page, and add links to make it easy for visitors to add reviews. Also consider providing motivation to write a review, perhaps entering customers who write their first review into a contest in which they could win a $50 (U.S.) gift certificate.

Remember, the most important resource in a recommendation community consists of the members themselves. Involve them in the development of their community by testing new ideas with those who are active in the community.
