Create a Clean, Standard Template

A product detail page that is quick to scan and read helps customers find the information they need on a conceptual level, and gives them a satisfying experience on an emotional level. A standardized product template helps customers find the details they need as they move from one product page to the next.

On the emotional level, some customers become intrigued with the way a product looks or sounds (if it makes a sound), and the image it portrays.[1] For some people, the first impression of the product can be the most important. Portraying the image that your customers respond to the most—one consistent with your SITE BRANDING (E1)—helps to positively reinforce your company's identity and your brand.

[1] Direct references to other emotional factors, such as touch, taste, and smell, may be important to your product line, but they are difficult to portray online. Usually companies forgo direct references to these emotional factors for more indirect ones, by portraying a compelling image. For example, perfume ads generally must sell a scent with an image. Wine merchants have developed a special language to help describe their products, using metaphors of fruits and other flavors. Although this is a far cry from the emotional response of actually tasting a wine, it can often be as close as the customer gets without going to the winery for a taste.
