Store Credit Card Information

Customers who are returning to a site will likely use a previously entered credit card. Put the list of stored credit cards at the top of the page to ensure that they will be seen. Use an ACTION BUTTON (K4) labeled Use this card next to each credit card to take the customer quickly to the next step of the order process (see Figure F6.1).

At the top of the page, include a link to a place where the customer can enter new credit card information, which will appear below the stored cards. Even if the customer has already stored many credit cards, the link will be visible. Another approach to this problem is to separate the card selection mechanism from the billing address specification. This way there will always be room to see the new card fields (see Figure F6.3). This approach has the drawback of requiring an additional page to load, and it separates the context of the chosen credit card and the associated billing address, which may lead to errors.
