Pattern Group F. Basic E-Commerce > Explain Shipping Times

Explain Shipping Times

Even when precise estimates are not possible, providing a range of days it will take for the customer to receive the goods is better than giving no information at all. Customers appreciate knowing what to expect. Indicate when to expect each item—for example, by saying something like, “Usually ships in 3–5 days.”

If an item will take longer to arrive than the time indicated in the order, update the customer with an e-mail explaining the delay and giving the new time estimate. Because the original estimated time frame may have been important (for it to arrive before a birthday or project start day, for example), give the customer an opportunity to update or cancel the order immediately.
