Pattern Group F. Basic E-Commerce > Show Delivery Options

Show Delivery Options

Most sites that ship items small enough to be handled by one of the major carriers, such as the U.S. Postal Service, UPS, or FedEx, offer several options for delivery. When you must ship with a carrier that handles large items, you may not be able to offer any shipping choices. But customers still need to know shipping times and costs. Set their expectations for each delivery option with a pick list or radio buttons so that they can choose what's best for them (see Figure F5.2).

Figure F5.2. Customers use Amazon.com's radio buttons to select the shipping method. Clicking on Update shows the cost of the selected shipping method in the order summary on the right. It would be even better to show the costs right next to the radio buttons as well.
