3. Disclaimers and Legal Information

Many Web sites have a link to their PRIVACY POLICY (E4) and to their Terms of Use page from their About Us page. Some Web sites also list rules about the right way to link to the site and provide images that people can use. In addition, some Web sites have disclaimers about the content on the Web site, as well as fair use policies. For example, the LEGO Web site (see Figure E5.3) has a page describing how fans of the toy can create their own Web sites in a way that does not infringe on any copyrighted materials or trademarks.

Figure E5.3. The LEGO About Us Web pages include a page about fair play, describing why LEGO has to protect its trademarks, and what fans may and may not do when creating their own Web sites about the toy. (Lego is a trademark of the LEGO Group © 2001 The LEGO Group. The LEGO® trademarks and products are used with permission. The LEGO Group does not sponsor or endorse The Design of Sites.)
