Organize Content with Files or with a Content Database

Use a content database to publish content. This way you can avoid recoding each page on which content appears. The content database can use the file system or a real database. Different levels of engineering are required for each, but the net effect is the same. It all depends on the amount of content on your site and the kinds of features you want to provide to your customers. Smaller sites can use files to store articles, whereas more sophisticated and larger sites should use a database, especially if PERSONALIZED CONTENT (D4) is provided.

To create an article for a content module, define its content HEADLINES AND BLURBS (D3), body copy, reference information, byline, related content, related products, and related links (see Figures D2.2 and D2.3). These pieces can then be connected to a specific content module in a specific page, which reassembles the content on demand (see Figure D2.4).
