Chapter 3 Test Your Thinking

Consider an interface for a Web-based version of an IRS 1040 form.

1) What mental models apply? What input controls are useful, necessary, or just nice to have? For example, like the real IRS, all you input is simple text. How could you implement a Web interface that uses discrete number or boolean values?
2) Analyze the tasks that are necessary to make this interface truly functional (i.e., automating the process, as contrasted with simply a electronic version of the form that just sits there).
3) Investigate possible input methods other than the keyboard. That is, other than typing in the information by hand, how else can you get the necessary information into this form?
