Step One

The important thing in getting a big job done is to start someplace, do something, then do something else. Methods give you a place to start and someplace to go next. Each step in the process takes you, with hope in your heart and code in your head, one step closer to a finished software solution.

All methods give you some kind of orderly recipe that outlines all the things you will have to do to complete the work and deliver the software. They serve as a reminder of the various matters that must be considered and understood in order to develop systems. Good methods put first things first and defer the deferrable. This is the principle of orderly progression at work: do this, then that, then this.
