Proof you ask for, proof you get. My office mate and I have been checking out Windows-based Personal Information Managers. One in particular is so fiendishly clever, with its cutesy DayTimer™ simulation and profligate use of screen real estate, that only a Contrarion Conspiracy could have produced it.

Deletion is the definitively damning datum: you delete an item from your notebook by dragging it to a wire wastebasket icon. (Yes, wire!) Then the wastebasket bursts into flames! Iconic immolation! Major programming resources were wasted on this software basket case. But it is so cute! It really impresses upper management, purchasing agents, and other mental defectives. Few, however, have discovered that, on a fast 486 with an accelerated video board and a large-screen monitor, the fast flickering flames are seen to form the perfect likeness of the late Lawrence Welk! Need I say more?
