Chapter 8. TRANSLATION MANAGEMENT > THE ART AND SCIENCE OF TRANSLATION MANAGEME...

THE ART AND SCIENCE OF TRANSLATION MANAGEMENT

Translators are as important to the communications process as the writers themselves. If a product description or a mission statement or a marketing brochure is a work of art, should its translation be any less? As you begin managing translators and translation agencies, you’ll come to appreciate the artistic elements of web localization. Just be sure not to lose sight of the science behind the art. So much of translation relies on rules and deadlines and clear instructions, and so few companies have perfected the process. Although the lack of quality in the translation industry presents opportunities for companies that do get it right, it also presents dangers for companies that don’t know where to start. In the next chapter, you’ll learn the many ways that computers aid in the translation process and how you can make the most of them.
