Chapter 17. THE FUTURE OF WEB GLOBALIZAT... > ONE INTERNET, ONE LANGUAGE AT A TIME

ONE INTERNET, ONE LANGUAGE AT A TIME

Web globalization isn’t easy and it isn’t always cheap, but you’ll find it’s a lot easier to adapt your web site to the world than it is to wait for the world to adapt to your web site. Fortunately, web globalization is still in its infancy. You don’t need a dozen languages to begin; one to two languages is usually a good start. Most organizations are working on their first localized web sites, and many more have yet to begin. However, this field is growing quickly. It won’t be long before organizations view localized web sites as a necessity rather than a luxury. And it won’t be long before many of the trends mentioned in this chapter begin to take hold. By keeping these developments in mind, you’ll be well positioned to meet the challenges of a growing, multilingual Internet.
