HANDS-ON: FRENCH, ITALIAN, AND GERMAN > MULTILINGUAL MULTITASKING

MULTILINGUAL MULTITASKING

Localizing a web page into one language is relatively straightforward. Localizing a web page into multiple languages simultaneously is not always so straightforward. Instead of working with one translator and one editor, you’ll work with no less than three translators and three editors. Managing all these people takes coordination and attention to detail; a project-tracking sheet won’t hurt either. Take a moment to create a tracking sheet like the one in Figure 5. It doesn’t have to be fancy—just an Excel sheet with the participants, stages, and dates. Notice how the sheet includes a number of “validation” stages. Validation is the process of reviewing a file before it goes to a translator and after it is returned. This step helps ensure that HTML code isn’t accidentally altered and that all relevant text is translated.
