Extending ASP with Third-Party Components

As powerful as it is, there are some things that ASP cannot do with the objects that it supports. One example is the capability to send email messages—a fairly common task to be done on a busy, modern Web site. Another is the capability to upload a file. Job sites invite users to upload their resumes all the time, so you need some way to handle these files when they are submitted.

In these cases, you can check on the Web to see if there is a third-party component to help you out. A number of software vendors will sell you a .dll file that supports a particular type of ASP object. When you install that .dll file on your server, you are then free to use that object in your ASP scripts.
