Chapter 34. Using PHP > Which Servers Support PHP Scripts?

Which Servers Support PHP Scripts?

One of the first questions people have about PHP is, "Can it run on my server?" Now that PHP has been ported to the Windows operating systems, the odds are very good that the answer to that question is "Yes." The next two sections look at the basics of installing PHP in both the Windows and UNIX operating systems, and they examine which Web servers PHP can work with in those environments.

Windows

Even though PHP has its heritage in a Linux environment, the sheer number of Windows users made it inevitable that PHP would eventually be supported in Windows. To install PHP for Windows, you need to download the compiled Win 32 binaries that support PHP processing from http://www.php.net/downloads.php, and extract binaries from the compressed file in a directory such as C:\PHP. You'll note that the .dll files that support PHP commands all begin with the php_ prefix.
