XHTML Modules

If you bought this book to get a handle on what XHTML is, it might be a little frightening to realize that XHTML 1.0 is intended only as a stepping stone on the way to a new structure for XHTML documents on the Web. Some idea of the speed of developments becomes clear when you consider that three Working Drafts relating to XHTML 1.1 were issued on January 5, 2000 ("Building XHTML Modules," "Modularization of XHTML," and "XHTML 1.1—Module-based XHTML") two weeks before the official XHTML 1.0 Recommendation was issued on January 20.

Clearly, the W3C visualizes XHTML 1.0 very much as a transitional form, with significant changes to legitimate document types and structures to follow shortly.
