Chapter 2. Introduction to XHTML > Converting Your Existing HTML Content to XHT...

Converting Your Existing HTML Content to XHTML

You don't need to rush out and start converting all your HTML content to XHTML right away because it will probably take some time for the browsers to be reprogrammed to work with XHTML code. Even so, you should be thinking about a conversion plan for your existing content, and any new content you are creating should adhere to one of the XHTML DTDs. If you do, you will be well prepared when browsers begin to enforce the rules of XHTML.

Tip

For most people, it will probably make sense to use the Transitional DTD for both conversion of existing code and creation of new code. HTML documents that create framed layouts should use the Frameset DTD.
