Understanding Rigor and Well-Formedness

Standards are like glue. A high-quality glue will keep all the parts that need to remain bonded nice and snug. The lower the quality of the glue, the more separation and potential weakness enters the bond.

Rigor is a high-quality glue. Using specific and rigid rules, an author can write documents whose elements are strongly bonded to one another. When building sites with many documents, those documents adhere not only within themselves, but to other documents within the Web site.
