Document Declarations and Elements

The following declarations and elements are used to describe document formatting in this chapter:

  • <?xml>— The XML declaration is used to define the document as an XML document and describe the XML version.

  • <!DOCTYPE>— This is the document type declaration, and it is used to declare and define the document type.

  • <html>…</html>— The HTML element, with its opening and closing tag, is used to begin the portion of the XHTML document that is written using HTML.

  • <head>…</head>— The head tag denotes the head portion of an HTML document.

  • <title>…</title>— Information placed within the title tag appears in the browser's title bar.

  • <body>…</body>— This is the body of the HTML document, where all information that is to be visible on the screen is placed.

  • <!--…--— The comment tag is used for assisting coders with code navigation.
