Understanding Document Structure

Just as a human being is structured in a logical way, so is an XHTML document. If you study the shape of your spouse or child, you are likely to notice that they all have a similar structure—even if the features of their individual compositions are different.

When I look at myself in the mirror, I see my face, my hair, my eyes, my mouth—my head. And below my head is my body, with its particular physical attributes. My body can conceivably be divided into parts, too—upper body and lower body. Although my face and hair are different from yours, as is the shape of my upper and lower body, the organization of our physical beings is essentially the same.
