Relative Linking

Now let's say that Joe and Jo are going to set up housekeeping in the same house. However, Joe is in the study, and Jo is in the living room. We want to link them up, but do we need to specify a direct address—an absolute link—as we did when they were half a world away from one another? No! After all, they're already at the same address.

Relative linking allows you to link to files residing at the same address, on the same server. The files can be in the same directory as one another, or they might be in another directory. In either case, there are methods of linking relatively (in relation to) rather than absolutely to these files.
