Designing for the Real World

About About.com

If you've read anything about the Internet in the past year, you've surely read something about portal sites. Most of the large portal sites started out as search engines and expanded their offering to encourage visitors to stay on the site longer. Yahoo! and Excite have added clubs and user communities that enable members to chat or post on message boards about their favorite topics.
