Chapter 24. Effective Page Design > User Interface Design

User Interface Design

Just as your smile and outward appearance help others identify what is interesting and appealing about you, a user interface is what allows Web visitors to want to stop and enjoy the bounty your site provides.

Interfaces serve to welcome, guide, and provide the functional elements required to assist your visitor in getting to the information or experience he or she is seeking. Considered a critical aspect of multimedia design, a well-built interface is particularly important for the Web. If an individual isn't finding the information required or isn't having a meaningful adventure on your pages, he or she can simply choose to take a sharp turn off the road and visit another site. One, perhaps, that will be more interesting and informative for the visitor and profitable to your competitor.
