Designing for the Real World: Defining Your Own DTD

Being able to read the XHTML 1.0 DTDs is a very useful skill; however, you don't want to stop there. The "X" in XHTML stands for extensibility, and part of the true power of XHTML is the fact that it can be extended as needed.

In XHTML 1.0, you can extend the language by editing the DTD. This will give you a new DTD you can use in your <!DOCTYPE> statements, and demonstrate some of the flexibility and adaptability inherent in XHTML.
