Chapter 30. Designing Specialty Graphics > Designing for the Real World

Designing for the Real World

Do Ad Banners Work?

There's no pat answer to this question. Ad banners are set up to provide an extension of a product's branding via a visual billboard-style effect, and also to provide a method by which interested people will click the banner and go directly to the advertiser's site.

The visual effect is known as impressions or views and refers to how many times an ad banner gets seen. When a banner is clicked and followed to the next site, this is known as a click-through.
