Inheritance

The term cascading refers primarily to the fact that not only can you use multiple styles in an individual XHTML

page, but also that the style-sheet–compliant browser will follow an order—a cascade—to interpret style information. You therefore can use all three style types, and the browser will interpret the linked styles first; embedded, second; and inline, last. Even though you might have master styles applied to an entire site, you can control aspects of individual pages with embedded styles and individual areas within those pages with inline styles.
