Defining Dynamic

The word dynamic is tossed about hourly by Web designers, with some confusion as to what it really means. The best definition I can give, at least in terms of Web design, is to say that dynamic refers to the capability of an element to change or influence change upon another element.

Dynamic HTML, dynamic HTML, DHTML, D-HTML—whatever it's called, whether the "D" is capitalized or not—has been hyped as a new technology that will change the face of the Web. Unlike standard HTML, which creates fixed documents, DHTML can add a variety of changeable enhancements to Web pages. It does this with a complex grouping of methods, some of which are highlighted in this chapter.
