The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)

The organization that can help give you the flexibility you'll need as an HTML author is the World Wide Web Consortium (see Figure 1.2). The Consortium was formalized on December 14, 1994. It's an independent, international organization made up of people from across the Internet and Web development community—from individuals to representatives from major corporations such as Microsoft, IBM, Sun Microsystems, and Netscape.
