The Anchor Tag

If the essence of the Web can be defined as linking, the essence of linking can most certainly be exemplified by the HTML tag at its core—the anchor, or A tag.

This tag is what allows one HTML document to attach, or anchor itself, to another. That other document can be nearby, or it can be far away—much like my friends Joe and Jo. If each had a Web site located in their native areas, those sites could be attached, or anchored, to each other using the anchor tag.
