Composing and Transferring Files

The best environment for creating your Web pages is using a simple text editor, such as SimpleText on the Macintosh or Notepad in Windows. Microsoft Word offers an HTML option, but the code produced by Word is inefficient.

After you have your HTML files completed on your computer and ready to go online, you encounter the issue of how to get them onto the Web server. The answer is an old Internet standard called File Transfer Protocol, or FTP.
