The Vector Look

Photos are almost always raster images because they require subtle blends and gradations of color to portray continuous tone. A photo is usually scanned, manipulated, or color corrected in Photoshop, saved as a TIFF or EPS to be placed in an illustration or layout program, or optimized as a JPEG for the Web.

Vector illustration programs have tools that produce sophisticated blends and gradients, but they are generally applied over larger areas.
