Aligning Text

The way text appears on a page is important to both readability and esthetics. Alignment—also known as justification—describes how the text is positioned both in relation to itself, and in relation to other objects on a page. Alignment plays a large role in the way text looks, determining where and how that text is placed.

Typically, text is justified to the left (at least with most Western languages). This means it begins at the flush-left margin of the page. Along the right side, the text is uneven. This is referred to as ragged right.
