Chapter 16. Advanced Table Layouts > Slicing Graphics for Placement in a Table

Slicing Graphics for Placement in a Table

One of the more interesting uses of tables is to create a grid system for the placement of graphics. This approach is sensible when you want to animate sections of a larger image or to place images in otherwise difficult-to-reach places on the browser page, such as slightly left of center. Instead of using one really big graphic to accommodate this look, designers slice the graphics, keeping the overall weight down and the load time faster.
