Designing for the Real World

HTML and Access: An Interview with David Oberhart

This case study is included here to impress upon you the importance of accessibility issues in HTML 4.0, and why you as a reader can benefit from understanding the standard and using it appropriately.

David Oberhart is a communications specialist and consultant who started working on UNIX-based computers when at the University of Iowa in the early 1980s. Because David is blind, he has been in a position to experience computer access technology since his first talking computer in 1983. David's years on the Internet have given him a unique perspective when it comes to the Web and how it has grown and changed from a text-based utility to the highly graphical environment it is today.
