Accessibility and HTML 4

One of the most important issues being discussed in terms of present-day and future standards is that of HTML accessibility. Originally designed to be a language that could be easily and readily distributed across platforms and read by anyone, regardless of their software, the browser wars quickly changed that reality. With everyone rushing hither and yon to create the coolest technology on the block, this fundamental aspect of HTML has been disrupted.

In HTML 4, the hope is to bring that accessibility back. By using intelligent options, page authors can add a variety of aids that will help individuals understand and negotiate pages no matter their platform—or their physical abilities.
