Appendix A. (X)HTML Elements and Attributes

Appendix A. (X)HTML Elements and Attributes

As we mentioned way back in Chapter 1, Web Page Building Blocks, there are three flavors of (X)HTML: strict, transitional, and frameset. Each flavor is defined by a DTD (document type definition) which lists which elements, attributes, and even values are permitted. The strict version does not allow the use of any deprecated or frameset elements, the transitional (sometimes called loose) lets you use deprecated elements, but not frameset ones, and the frameset version lets you use all the elements of the transitional flavor as well as the frameset elements.
