Creating Custom Inline HTML Tags

A custom inline HTML tag is like a character style in a word processor or layout program. It's particularly useful for combining a set of text formatting characteristics in one tag.

To create a custom inline tag:

1.
In the STYLE section at the top of your HTML document or in an external style sheet, typeSPAN.classname, where classname is the identifying word for the class you're going to use.

Or type SPAN#idname, where idname is the word that identifies this particular text.

2.
Type {property:value, using the information on pages 257–289.

3.
Create additional definitions, if desired, separating each with a ;.

4.
Add the final }.
