Chapter 6. Page Layout > Creating Columns

Creating Columns

You can divide your page into columns with a special extension that only Netscape recognizes. The extension is still pretty limited, however. First, all columns must be the same width. Second, if you make the columns too narrow, they will overlap and look horrible.

To create columns:

1.
In your HTML document, type < MULTICOL.

2.
Type COLS=n, where n is the number of columns desired. Each column will be the same size.

3.
If desired, type GUTTER=n, where n is the width of the space between the columns, in pixels or as a percentage.

4.
If desired, type WIDTH=n, where n is the width of the entire column set, including the gutter, in pixels or as a percentage of window size.

5.
Type the final > to finish the column definition.

6.
Create the elements (text or images) that will go into the columns.

7.
Type </MULTICOL>.
