Chapter 6. Page Layout > QuotingShort Passages of Text

QuotingShort Passages of Text

Block quotes, as described on the preceding page, are block-level elements, that is, they always start on a new line. HTML 4 includes a new tag for marking shorter, inline passages. Although neither Netscape nor Explorer currently supports this new tag, it may be useful for future versions.

To quote short passages of text:

1.
Type <Q.

2.
If desired, type LANG=xx, where xx is the two letter code for the language the quote will be in. This code determines the type of quote marks that will be used ("" for English, «» for many European languages, etc.).

3.
Type >.

4.
Type the text to be quoted.

5.
Type </Q>.
