Chapter 12. Multimedia > Embedding Sound in a Page

Embedding Sound in a Page

Both major browsers come with plug-ins that let them play sound right in the Web page itself without it being necessary for the visitor to download anything extra.

To embed sound in a page:

1.
In your HTML document, type <EMBED SRC="sound.url", where sound.url is the complete file name and extension for the sound file.

2.
If desired, type CONTROLS="form", where form determines how the sound controls should appear. The available options are console, smallconsole, playbutton, pausebutton, stopbutton, and volumelever.

If you choose a kind of control, type WIDTH=w HEIGHT=h where w and h represent the width and height, respectively, of the type of control.

3.
If desired, type AUTOSTART=false so that the sound doesn't play automatically when the visitor jumps to the page.

4.
If desired, typeLOOP=n to repeat the sound automatically n number of times. Or type LOOP=true to repeat the sound until the visitor clicks the Stop button (if you've provided one) or jumps to another page.

5.
If desired, typeALIGN=direction to align the controls on the page. The ALIGN tag works the same for embedded sound as it does for images. For more information, see page 93.

6.
Type the final >.
