Spacing

HTML browsers will ignore any extra spaces that exist between the tags in your HTML document. You can use this to your advantage by adding spaces and returns to help view the elements in your HTML document more clearly while you're writing and designing your page (Figure 1.6).

On the other hand, you won't be able to count on returns or spaces to format your document. A return at the end of a paragraph in your HTML document will not appear in the browsed page. Instead, you'll use a P tag (see page 39) to begin each new paragraph (Figure 1.7).
