Chapter 19. Extras > Using Vertical Rules

Using Vertical Rules

It's easy to create horizontal rules in an HTML document. Creating vertical rules, along the left or right margin, for example, is only slightly more complicated.

To create a vertical rule:

1.
In Photoshop, or other image editing program, create a bar of the desired color and width, and about 500 pixels high.

2.
In the HTML document, place the cursor above the text that should be alongside the vertical bar.

3.
Type <IMG SRC="verticalbar.gif" where verticalbar.gif is the location on the server of the vertical bar created in step 1.

4.
Either type ALIGN=left to place the vertical bar along the left margin or type ALIGN=right to place it along the right margin.

5.
Type the final > to complete the IMG definition.

6.
Type the text that should appear alongside the vertical rule.
