Chapter 21.  Publishing Your Page on the Web > Transferring Files to the Server

Transferring Files to the Server

In order for other people on the Internet to see your pages, you have to upload them to your Web host's server. One easy way to do that is with an FTP program, like WS_FTP for Windows (see below), or Fetch for Macintosh (see page 336). Many Web page editors offer publishing features as well. For details on publishing files to AOL, see page 338.

To set up WS_FTP to transfer HTML files as text (in ASCII mode):

1.
Open WS_FTP.

2.
Click Options at the bottom of the window.

3.
Click the Extensions tab in the WS_FTP Pro Properties dialog box that appears.

4.
In the text box, type .htm and click the Add button. Then type .html and click the Add button again (Figure 21.10). This ensures that all your HTML files will be transferred in ASCII mode.
