Chapter 18.  JavaScript Essentials > Changing a Link's Status Label

Changing a Link's Status Label

When a visitor points to a link, usually the link's URL appears in the status area of the browser window. If you want something else to appear there, you can use this easy technique to add your own status label.

To change a link's status label:

1.
Create the link as usual. For more details, consult Chapter 7, Links.

2.
In the link tag, type ONMOUSEOVER ="window.status='. (First double quotes, then a single one.)

3.
Type the text that you want to appear in the status area of the browser window when the visitor points at the link.

4.
Type '; return true". (That's a single quote, semicolon, and then the rest.)
