Checking Files In and Out

Once you’ve created and defined the site in the Project panel, the files become accessible for checking out or checking back in again. Once a file is checked out, it is no longer available to other authors until you check it back in again. This prevents the problems with two authors editing the same file at the same time. In this case, the last author to save the file would overwrite the other author’s work.

Check Files In and Out

Click the Window menu, and then click Project to open the Project panel.

Click the Open link.

Select the project that you want to work on.

Right-click your mouse on a file in the Project tree structure, and then click Check Out from the context-sensitive menu.

The icon next to the file name in the tree structure indicates the file is checked out.

Right-click on the checked out file, and then click Check In from the context-sensitive menu.

The icon is removed, giving other authors access to the file.
