Project 4: Embedding Fonts into a Flash Document

Project 4: Embedding Fonts into a Flash Document

Skills and Tools: Fonts, Dynamic Text, and ActionScripting

When you publish or export a Flash application containing static text, Flash will create outlines of the text and uses those outlines to display the text in Flash Player. Conversely, when you publish a Flash application containing dynamic or input text fields, Flash will store the names of the fonts used in creating the text, and then use the font names to locate identical or similar fonts on the user’s system when the Flash application is running.

In addition, you can export font outlines with dynamic or input text by clicking the Embed option in the Property inspector. Although embedding fonts into a Flash file will increase the size of the published swf document, it will give you total control over exactly what visitors see when they open the file.
