Chapter 2. Working Within the Flash Environment > Setting Editing Preferences

Setting Editing Preferences

When you edit text and graphics in a Flash document, you can customize the way you use Pen tools, draw connecting lines and smooth curves, and recognize line and shapes. You can also select text orientation options, which is useful when using English (horizontal) or Asian (vertical) language fonts. If you are using Flash MX Professional 2004, you can set Project preferences for closing and saving project files.

Set Editing Preferences

Click the Flash (Professional) (Mac) or Edit (Win) menu, and then click Preferences.

Click the Editing tab.

Select from the following options:

  • Pen Tools options. Select check boxes to show pen preview, solid points, and precise cursors.

  • Vertical Text options.

    • Default Text Orientation. Select to make default orientation vertical, which is useful for Asian fonts.

    • Right To Left Text Flow. Select to reverse the default text display direction.

    • No Kerning. Select to turn off kerning for vertical text.

  • Drawing Settings. Select options for Connect Lines, Smooth Curves, Recognize Lines, Recognize Shapes, Click Accuracy.

  • Project Settings (Pro). Select check boxes to Close Open Files On Project Close, and Save Project Files On Test Project Or Publish Project.

Click OK.
