Chapter 5. Working with Text > Using Alias Text

Using Alias Text

Anti-aliasing affects the pixels on the edge of a shape by allowing them to blend in with the background. It is a crucial feature when working with some text as it makes it appear smoother and more integrated. The drawback is that at smaller font sizes the text can appear blurry. Flash MX 2004 has added a new feature to the text properties that mimics aliasing even when anti-aliasing is enabled for your Flash movie. When this feature is enabled, Flash aligns the text to the nearest pixel boundary. In this way, the font appears crisp when displayed in the exported Flash movie.

Set a Text Field to Alias Text

Select the text field with the Arrow tool.

Click the Alias Text button in the Property Inspector.

IMPORTANT This feature only supports static text if viewed on earlier versions of the Flash Player (Flash 6 or earlier).
