Video Support

Flash 5 did not offer true video support; video could only be imported as a series of static images or exported to QuickTime. MX fully supports embedded video, creating a seamless experience that does not require external players. You can import video in multiple formats and, with the inclusion of the Sorenson Spark codec (video encoder and decoder), shown in Figure 1.7, you can embed video directly into SWF files. Imported video can be manipulated—rotated, scaled, skewed, masked, and animated—much like other assets, and can also be controlled with ActionScript. Sorenson Spark provides truly impressive compression of large video files. To import video files and access Sorenson Spark, choose File, Import and navigate to a video file on your computer. Compression is applied when your Flash movie is exported.

Figure 1.7. The new Sorenson Spark codec produces higher quality video at smaller sizes and allows you to embed video directly in SWFs.
