Breaking Apart Bitmaps

Breaking apart a bitmap separates a bitmap into its component pixels, which can then be selected and modified individually. Unless a bitmap is broken apart, it can only be selected and manipulated globally, as a whole. After a bitmap is broken apart, you can use the drawing and painting tools to edit individual pixels.

To break apart a bitmap, select a bitmap on the Stage and choose Modify, Break Apart. Then you can use the Lasso tool with the Magic Wand modifier to select portions of a bitmap. Clicking a bitmap with the Magic Wand selects pixels according to color range, as shown in Figure 4.17.
